Our resident pianist, Alex participated in a concert at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta. He was a part of the Atlanta Area Suzuki Piano Association's 2011s Friendship Concert in which students from all over the country performed. It was really a big deal for us, and much preparation was involved, but he did a fabulous job and we're really proud of him.
We went out last week and purchased a suit for him and got the pants back from the alterations shop just in time for Saturday's dress rehearsal. But the outfit was a minor part of the preparation. Believe me, it took hours and hours and hours of practice to get his piece to a point of being excellent. He has worked very hard on improving his piano playing ability, and hopefully this concert will give him the experience he needs to get even better.
Grandma and Grandpa Kenny came to the concert on Sunday, and it was a joy to see them as always. And as a bonus, we all walked down the skyscraper-lined streets of Midtown Atlanta to dine after the show. Celia, aka Grandma, grew up in Atlanta in a house near the corner of Juniper and 12th Street which is now part of a restaurant called Einsteins. So we decided that it would be fun to have dinner there.
Most of us had regular burgers with some toppings, but Alex had a house specialty called E=MC2.
Celia remembers this tree from when she was a little girl.
I've been to hear the sympony at their home venue at Woodruff Arts Center and I've observed the large sculpture outside several times being totally unimpressed.
For one thing, I've never looked at it from this angle, or this one.
As gymnasts, they were imagining that a group of guys was really getting into this position. Nicholas is not a quitter, but he states that it would be impossible. I agree.
Had lunch with Celia today and she was overflowing with pride for Alex's piano excellence. She really enjoyed the whole experience with all the family, especially dining with you'l at Einstein's. Hurrah for family.
Saw some of my nieces and nephews this past week-end. It's hard to believe some of them are grandparents now when I'm just a spring chicken. (70 Mar 2nd)
