The Doctor Will Be In

I am so looking forward to hearing a live talk by Catholic parenting expert  Dr. Ray Guarendi.  He's a father of 10, a clinical psychologist and host of The Doctor is In, a radio show on EWTN and Ave Maria Radio as well as on Sirius Satellite channel 160.

The title of his talk is You're a Better Parent than you Think, and it will be at the CHC Catholic Homeschooling Conference.  If you live anywhere in the Southeastern United State, especially in northeast Georgia, I suggest buying a ticket today.  The conference will be Friday and Saturday April 23rd and 24th, 2010.  Dr. Ray will be speaking Friday evening, and on Saturday speakers will include Laura Berquist, Ginny Sueffert and Father Augustine Tran.

A Dress-up Weekend

Among my cousins, there is a family in Covington with a daughter two days younger than Jacob, and her name is Alexandra.  We rarely get together with them, as the drive is about an hour and a half, so its limited once every year or two.  With the age of facebook and text messaging, however, Jacob ad Alex have managed to become buddies.  In February, Jacob joined her and her church youth group on a weekend ski trip, and last weekend he joined her at her prom.

It turned out to be a great night for all of us, including the teens, their younger siblings and and the parents and grandparents as well.  We went out to eat Mexican food and then retired to our cousins' home for dessert.

Here's one that Alex took of Jacob and one of her classmates.  It didn't surprise me to learn that Jacob didn't spend much time on the dance floor, although his dad did try to give him a little lesson - ha.

The next night Lee and I attended the engagement party of Lee's dad's step grandaughter.  It was held in the beautiful Vinings Club which overlooks the Atlanta skyline, and everything was very beautiful.  Here are some pictures taken by me and others from my camera.

Afterwards we put in an appearance at the old neighborhood at a poker party, and that was fun as well.  Unfortunately we lost $10 and didn't even get any pictures.  Maybe next time.
