Sunday was the Feast of the Holy Family and we managed to celebrate family style. We began with 8 a.m. mass with our two oldest boys serving, and we came home and rested for a while. The boys played their games, Lee tinkered around on the cars and I took a nap on the couch while a big pot of turkey soup cooked on the stove.
About an hour before sundown an idea came to one of us - let's go on a walk to the lake. We had been meaning to do it for a while, and now was our chance! We grabbed our shoes and the Sparky and his leash and off we went.
The neighborhood across the street has a public access trail taking us to what is in winter a dry lake bed. They allow the lake to drain in winter for some reason, and it made for an interesting adventure. Stumps and interesting rocks were everywhere, as was mud.
I didn't take my camera because I thought it would be too dark, but I regretted it because I could have gotten tons of photos of Lee and the boys playing in the mud. A couple of times shoes were taken off by the thick mud, and thrown rocks made for an entertaining muddy splash.
We arrived home to find that Max and Cleo had gotten out of the fence and our neighbor had brought them home only to find that our front door was open! He called the police and they greeted us at the front door. A bit scary, but a few lessons learned. #1 Always lock the door when we go on a walk and #2 put the shepherds in the basement. We would like to take them with us, but walking them is a big chore as they are not trained.
Here are some pictures taken after our arrival at home.
