We love farms. Especially the animals.
Chickens, goats, cows - we love them all!
We especially enjoy spending a morning on a farm with so many of our homeschooling friends. Some of them are fellow bloggers Kelly, Megan and Shelly. Others were friends we haven't seen in a long time, including a good buddy of Jacob's who he's been longing to play with for a long long time. The group was so big that I didn't get a chance to talk with everyone and so I'm hoping for more time at park day tomorrow.
We're thinking about getting some chickens for our new property. It is zoned agricultural. And based on the picture above, it looks like the boys have a way with chickens. I was worried about the noise from a rooster, but Kelly has been reading a book about keepng chickens, and says it's best not to have a rooster if you want laying hens. She promised to send me the link and I think I'll order it right away.
My love of farms began when I was a little girl. Some very close childhood friends had a farm, and I used to spend the weekends on the farm with them. I remember hearding cows with a stick and lying on the upper level of a barn watching the male calves get turned into steers. We would fish in their ponds, but somehow I never caught anything - thus I don't have a love for fishing.
In high school I contemplated becoming a farm wife. I was "pre-engaged" to a farmer, and we actually had our little homestead picked out. Good thing it didn't work out. Reminds me of the line from a Garth Brooks song Some of God's greatests gifts are unanswered prayers!
"What was your favorite thing about our field trip today?" I asked Andrew,
With a big smiling face he answered: "I got to feed chickens and cows!"
Jacob and Nicholas enjoyed the adventure of the corn maize. Alex just loved the whole day. Before we left he took off his shoes and socks so he could roam around the farmyard barefooted.
Oh! Oh! Jumping up and down! We would LOVE to buy any extra eggs you might get if you have chickens! It'll be so great to have you just around the corner! :-)

My boys are hoping this becomes and annual event, they love the farm. Hopefully you end up making it to the park tomorrow! Should be pretty nice.
