Only one boy has decided to play baseball this year, which makes it a nice opportunity for all of us. We are all able to go to the park and watch the game without frantic rushing from one place to the next.
We've all become comfortable with the park now, and our "baby" is now five, so a baseball game is a great opportunity for me to sit and observe the kids in action and enjoy them from a distance. Here are some things that I saw.
Andrew found a little friend who brought some kind of neat building toys with him, and they were having a blast together. I watched them laughing and having an overall great time. I overheard Andrew tell his friend about a book we had read, taking the time to tell him about what was on each page.
Alex found a little girl with a dog. He spent the entire time playing with the dog and talking with the girl. He can ge such a kind and gentle boy, and it's nice to see him in action. Animals just seem to bring out the best in him.
Jacob was Nicholas' personal coach during pre-game practice and his personal cheerleader during the game. He was sure to let me know about every good thing Nicholas did in the game just in case I didn't see it myself.
I also enjoyed watching Lee in his assistant coach duties. This year he has been asked to be the Coach part of "Coach-Pitch" baseball, and I think he is really enjoying it. It's a wonderful opportunity to get some exercise.
The only negative was the player himself, who has some misconceptions about things. I guess he figures he is a superstar baseball player who needs two assistants - one to throw with him and make sure he has all his equipment (Jacob), and one to provide all the candy he wants (me). We'll have to work on that.
