I could kick myself for leaving the camera in the car. Not because I really needed to photograph Turner Field or the Braves Players or anything. The thing to remember is watching those little 5-year-old eyes looking around at everything with amazement.
We arrived at the stadium during the second inning, and then it took us about 1/2 an inning or more to make it to our seats. We were in the second to last row - or the Penthouse, as the usher called it. But believe it or not, they were GREAT SEATS! Oh sure, the players looked like ants down there, but we could see their numbers as they batted, so the boys always knew who was up. And we were right behind/above home platee, so we could see could see every ball come across the plate.
Our birthday boy was especially excited to see Chipper and Andruw at bat. He didn't really care that they didn't do anything great that game, or that the Braves lost the game 6 to 1. After discussing the loss, he said that he was sure glad we came to the game. It was so much fun.
All of the other boys were thrilled too. While eating the snacks I had packed, they were sitting at the edge of their seats paying attention to everything.
We weren't aware there was a prohibition on hard coolers when we arrived, but that was ok. The person at the gate alerted an employee in a yellow shirt who took us to Guest Services where they let us take our water bottles out and put them in a plastic bag. The lady was very nice, and when Andrew told her it was his birthday, she gave him a BIRTHDAY BAG which contained a Braves hat and a little foam tomahawk. What a deal! On our way out of the park, we just stopped by and picked up our cooler.
After the game, there was an awsome fireworks show. Apparently they have one every Friday night. The theme for this one was James Bond to commemorate the anniversary of the publishing of the first Bond novel (I can't remember how many years). Awesome music was played and the fireworks were amazing. Best of all, we had perfect seats to see the show. We were watching the fireworks with the Atlanta skyline in the background, and it was incredible.
OK, I had better stop now, because I am running out of adjectives! Needless to say that a good time was had by all. It was definitely a day to remember, and a great way for a baseball fan to spend his 5th birthday.
Here are some photos of the birthday boy that Jacob took in the car as we were leaving.
