Nicholas' Opinion

I should be busy cleaning up to get ready for any potential buyers who might come our way and putting balloons on all of our signs to attract people to our house.  I'll get to that in a minute.

Nicholas climbed in my bed and said something cute, innocent and yet sad that he had to even think about it.

"You know, Mom, I saw the stupidest commercial on TV."

"What?"

"It was this thing that you use for 3 months so you won't get pregnant. I mean how stupid is that?  Who wouldn't want a baby?"

Speaking of which, congratulations to Megan at Bases Loaded  who now has a BABY GIRL on deck!

Let's Race Scooters!

Me:  This makes me nervous.  I'm afraid you'll get hurt.

Neighbor Boy (NB):  Don't worry, we're professionals!

Nicholas:  Yea, we're experts at falling and not getting hurt.

This morning they drew a track in the driveway and street for scooter/bicycle racing.

Despite the heat, they're out there having fun.  Bloody knees are kept to a  minimum.  And they're proud of their jumps.

They're even learning - or so they say.

NB:  You know I just learned something.

Nicholas:  Wh100_3980 at?

NB:  When you ride a scooter, it's best to wear shoes!

I'm expecting to hear something like - because you won't hurt your feet.  But no!

NB:  Because that way you can get a better start!

After dinner we decided to get back out some more.  As you can see from the picture above, they were pretty tired by then.  But these kids aren't ones for letting that stop them.

100_3982 Not this little guy who has been riding a bicycle without training wheels since before his 4th birthday.

And then, badmitton anyone?100_3991   Looks like even Dad got in on the game.  I think I'll go find a quiet spot and rest for a while!  This is what summer vacation is all about!

"Shucking corn is fun!"

says Nicholas as  he  happily participates in a family 4th of July tradition.  See the boys and their dad having "fun".

Only 18 ears in all, and a big load of shucks for the backyard compost pile.

More about homemade ice cream later.   I can't wait!

Luke2 wants to know..

100_3733

Unlike all of his older brothers who would prefer not to be around girls, Luke2 (4)  has always  loved little girls.  Every time he sees a little girl he likes,  he follows her around and watches her.  If she is nice to him, he'll even try to hug her and/or kiss her.  Yesterday he came to me cradling a stuffed dog in his arms.  Handing "her" to me  he said "Isn't she cute?"

This makes our conversation at bathtime seem out of character - funny, but out of character.

Luke2: When I grow up will I have to be all alone?

Me: Well, you can get married and have children of your own.

Luke2: (Sad look) Oh.

Me: Why are you sad?

Luke2:  Because all the girls I see are too stupid looking to marry.

He felt much better when I explained that he doesn't have to pick out a wife right now.  And that another option would be to become a priest.
